Propane Tank Sizes

Posted on April 26, 2010.
Propane Tank SizesCan I fill my propane tank for BBQ size from a propane tank-sized house?

We plan to add a propane tank above ground stationary (200 gal.) For heating / cooling / hot water in a caravan on our farm. I want to be able to fill a variety of barbecue sized tanks of this - is this possible?

Dangerous ... check with your propane supplier.

Do not try to do it! First, the liquid propane is extremely cold (-44 ° F) if you get on your skin. Also, you have no way to tell how you transfer the propane container. There must be enough space there for propane to "grow", outside of rising air temperatures. Add to this the fact that the cylinder must be inspected by a "qualified" person who knows what to look for and what is dangerous. There are way too many ways for you to injure or damage your property to make it worth considering!

It is not as simple as that. You must have a correct compressor and valves, etc., etc. So it may be possible, but the cost would be advantageous.

Why not have the gas company run a line of the trailer? You could then just connect directly to the tow line and skip the tank completely.

Not a good thing to try to propane gas is very volitional and can explode from static electricity. Use the reload / replace the gas bottle down sites, it is safer and you do not risk your car at home or family. It may also be prohibited from touching a sealed tank or fill tanks without a permit.
