When it comes to home canning, one of the easiest recipes you can make a certain type of jam and marmalade fruit pear recipe is no exception.

You will need your basic supplies for home canning: the water-bath canner, jars half pint or pint companies, of seals and rings, jar lifter, ladle, spatula and a nonstick silicone funnel.

If you like to give homemade food gifts during the holiday season, it is a pleasure to make and give as gifts. If you place your jars correctly, this marmalade is expected to last up to 1 year.

Pear Marmalade Recipe

4 lbs. fresh pears
8 cups granulated sugar
2 cups of tap water
4 fresh oranges
1 1 / 2 teaspoon grated orange zest

Wash and remove stems and leaves from pears. Remove skin and chop the flesh into small pieces. Peel the skin from oranges and discard seeds and membranes. Reserve a small piece of orange peel and grate it finely until you have 1 1 / 2 c. teaspoon finely grated orange zest. Chop the flesh of the oranges into small pieces.

In a large saucepan, combine all the above ingredients and bring to rapid boil. Reduce heat to medium and simmer for about 45 minutes or until the mixture thickens. You'll need to stir the mixture every 8-10 minutes with a silicon spatula nonstick to prevent sticking to the pan.

Wash and clean your half-pint Mason jars or miniature. You want to warm up your pots with your oven set to 200 degrees F. Remove from oven pots, one at a time. Pour the hot mixture into hot clean jars leaving a 1 / 2 headspace. Wipe the jar rim clean with a soft cotton cloth. Place the ring and the seal on the jar.

process your jars in a water bath canner for 10 minutes or according to manufacturer's instructions.

This recipe will make about 4-5 jars half pint of jam.
